C-C bus driver wins bus road-eo for the second year
Churchville-Chili bus driver Gene Ehrmentraut placed first in the Conventional Style School Bus category at the 23rd Annual Rochester Area School Bus Safety Competition, also known as a Bus Road-eo. Ehrmentraut's top placement means he advances to the New York State Competition in Albany, July 14. Another C-C bus driver, Gene Clendenning, placed sixth in the competition. more

Fundraising opportunity offered to Parma community organizations

The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. honored local girls with Silver Awards, the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout (ages 11-14, grades 6-9) can earn. The Silver Award recognition ceremony was held on May 12 at the Rochester Marriott Thruway. more

Stephen Brisson, a native of New England, and a recent graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, was the preacher/presider at the June 2 and 3 services at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall. more

Library receives Kodak grant
The Ogden Farmers' Library is the recipient of a "Dollars for Doers" grant from Eastman Kodak, thanks to action taken by Library Trustee Corinne Goeke. Dollars for Doers is an annual grant program that recognizes and encourages examples of volunteer involvement in community organizations by Eastman Kodak employees. more

Communication museum opens for the season
The Antique Wireless Association's Electronic Communication Museum opened for the 2001 season on Sunday, May 6. The electronic communication theme covers techniques from the telegraph and Morse code era through modern communications, with an emphasis on early radio, and has been in operation since 1976. more

An article in the May 28, 2001 edition covered the construction of the Ogden Skate Park at Pineway Ponds Park. To clarify, the donation made by the Town of Ogden was trucking services and not a monetary donation. more

Free movies in the parks

Legion to hold flag disposal ceremony
The annual Flag Disposal ceremony, the traditional ritual involving the ceremonial burning of frayed and unserviceable flags, is scheduled by the Monroe County American Legion Auxiliary on Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. It will be held at the Harvey C. Noone Post, 6444 Buffalo Road, Churchville. The Flag ceremony will be conducted by Post Commander and members of the Post. more

The Rochester Letter Carriers' Food Drive will be held from June 4 to June 9. The goal for this year is 550,000 lbs. more

New York housing market solid in April
Sales of existing single-family homes in New York in April 2001 were comparable to the same period one year ago, according to single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of Realtors. The data showed an average selling price increase of almost 5 percent compared to April 2000. more

Seventh District holds spring conference
The annual Seventh District Spring Conference American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York will be held in conjunction with the Seventh District American Legion Convention, Saturday, June 9. It will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2883, 225 East Union Street, Newark. County Presidents from the eight counties will give brief reports, highlighting one or two activities or special projects for the past year. more

WEST meets with transportation planners
Last month, Joseph Boardman, Commissioner of New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and Assemblyman Charles Nesbitt met with the members of the Westside Economic Development Council (WEST) to discuss the need for the further extension of Route 531. The purpose of the meeting was to openly discuss funding the extension and the issues surrounding the non-funded status on the Genesee Transportation Council (GTC) five-year plan. more

Kendall commencement speaker 1987 graduate Dr. Tricia Markusen
The Kendall Central School District has announced that the speaker at this year's commencement ceremony will be Dr. Tricia E. Markusen. Markusen is a 1987 graduate of Kendall High School who went on to earn her bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences from Wellesley College, where she graduated magna cum laude. more

Kendall students intern at area businesses, earn college credit
Three Kendall students are getting a jump on their careers through the Career Education Internship Program (CEIP) at BOCES 2. They spent 108 hours in internships and earned college credit through in-class training on topics such as college preparation, career planning and goal setting. more

Spencerport School District schedules revised budget vote June 12
The Spencerport Board of Education will put a revised school budget of $48,670,696 up for a vote on June 12. more

Chili senior programs
Day Trip to Welland Canal, St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada - Tuesday, July 17, includes transportation via a deluxe motorcoach tour of town of Welland to see mural, admission to the Welland Canal Museum, sit-down luncheon at Freighter's Food Emporium, and matinee performance of "Forever Plaid." $40 per Chili resident. Non-residents may register, space permitting, beginning June 18 for $55. more

Hilton-Parma Seniors plan day trip
Plans have been made for the Hilton-Parma Seniors to travel to Warren, Pennsylvania on Friday, July 6 for a day of fun and entertainment. The day includes shopping time at the Blair Warehouse, lunch "on your own," the matinee performance of "Ain't Misbehavin'," and a sit-down dinner at the Ironstone Restaurant. more

Bright Raven gymnasts compete in Elmira
The Level 4 and 5 teams of Bright Raven Gymnastics traveled to Elmira May 19 to 20 to compete in the Elmira Team Challenge. Both teams made a fine showing, placing third as a team and winning numerous individual honors. more

Hawks hold 2001 wrestling camp
The Hawks 2001 Wrestling Camp will be held June 25-29 at Holley Central School. Wrestlers will be separated by age to learn modern wrestling techniques. more

Rangers lose in semi finals
Spencerport was clinging to a 3-2 lead after five innings in the sectional, semi-final playoff baseball game against the number one ranked team in New York state - McQuaid. Then the wheels fell off. more

Rangers upset by Brighton in second round
Spencerport senior Melissa Sullivan flied out for the final out of the game and immediately dropped to her knees along the first base line. It was symbolic as the third-seeded Rangers were brought to their knees in a 3-0 sectional playoff upset by 11th-ranked Brighton May 24. more
