Canal leaders to discuss revitalization in Brockport

Norman Mintz, noted downtown revitalization expert, urban designer and author, will speak with local elected officials, planners and community leaders at a presentation scheduled by the Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor Planning Commission.

The presentation will take place Monday, June 4 at the Brockport Village Hall, 49 State Street from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

"The revitalization of our canal communities is central to the management plan being developed for the Heritage Area," noted Brian Grassia, Erie County representative and chair of the 18 member Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor Planning Commission.

"When you look at the recent census statistics regarding population and employment growth, there is no question that the Erie Canal's cities, town and villages, with their history, their architecture, and their community spirit, can be, with local efforts, the jewels that stimulate pride and investment in Western New York," added Monroe County Planning Commissioner Joyce Lobene.
