Robert J. Burke, Burke Hardware owner, age 60

Area businessman Robert J. Burke died May 15, 2001. A graduate of Brockport High School 1958, Mr. Burke graduated in 1962 from Cornell University with a bachelor of science degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Mr. Burke was owner/manager since 1962 of the Burke business, Robert J. Burke Enterprises, Inc., formerly James Burke and Son, Inc.

An Eagle Scout, Mr. Burke was active in the Otetiana Council Boy Scouts of America and Scout Troop 145 in Hamlin.

He joined the Hamlin Fire Department in 1958, remaining an active member for 30 years, vice president for one year and president for 12 years. Besides his commitment to the fire department, Mr. Burke also served as treasurer of the Hamlin Fire District, Inc. for 13 years and was a member of the Hamlin Ambulance Corps for 25 years and its Board of Directors for five years.

At the time of his death, Mr. Burke was fulfilling his fifth term as president of the Hamlin Fire Department Exempts.

A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hamlin, Mr. Burke served on the parish council. In addition, his community involvement included 10 years on the Hamlin Zoning Board.

Mr. Burke is survived by his wife, Chalie; his son, Joey; his sister, Mary (Howard) Hueser; his mother-in-law, Esther Klafehn; sister-in-law, Sherilyn Unger; nieces and nephews, Fletcher and Trevor Unger and Michelle and Scott Hueser.

A Funeral Mass was said May 19 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hamlin. Interment private. Contributions can be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church or the Hamlin Firemen's Exempt.


BROCKPORT

•Hare, Donald M., Suddenly on May 28, 2001 at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra M. Hare; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Cindy Hare; daughter and son-in-law, Tamsin and Craig MacDonald. Predeceased by his sister, Bette Meadows; surviving sisters, Dorothy Heise, Ruth Deming and Marguerite "Peg" Browne; his brothers, George Stanley (Marilyn) and Cyril (Beverly) Hare, Jr; grandchildren, Ashley Maria, Adam Peter, Brooke Lorraine, Benjamin Thomas and Aidan Joseph MacDonald; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hare was former Chief of Police of the Brockport Police Department, member of Masonic Lodge #173 and the Brockport Fire Department.

Funeral services were held June 1 at the Fowler Funeral Homes, Brockport. Interment held privately. Donations can be made to the Brockport Fire Department Exempt Club, P.O. Box 341, Brockport or the Brockport Police Stetson Club, 1 Clinton Street, Brockport, 14420 in his memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Pimm, Etta M. (Leathersich), Monday, May 28, 2001 at age 79. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ernest W. Pimm; two daughters, Geraldine M. (James) Schnell and Ellen M. (Louis) Amarosa; four grandchildren, James (Christine) Schnell of Macedon, Carrie (Ty) Kirk of Rochester, George Schnell of Flushing, NY and Ann Marie Amarosa of Rochester; her great grandson, James Matthew Schnell; her sister, Hazel Smith; sister-in-law, Helen Leathersich; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held June 1 at the Walker Brothers Company Funeral Home, Inc., Churchville. Interment Creekside Cemetery, Churchville. Contribu-tions can be made to the Churchville Fire Department Ambulance or to the Clifton Fire Department in her memory.


•Stoddard, Donald R., May 21, 2001. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Gerald Stoddard of Hamburg; several nieces and nephews.

CLARENDON

•Murray, James S., Suddenly on Monday, May 21, 2001 at age 70. Survived by Janice, his loving wife of 42 years; daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Donald) Seely; granddaughter, Megan Seely; mother-in-law, Edryne K. Jordan; step-mother, Lois Murray; step-sister, Charlotte Danbury; several cousins and dear friends. Jim was a Korean War veteran, Kodak retiree, an avid golfer and skilled woodworker.

Services private with interment at Arlington National Cemetery. Friends wishing can make contributions to a charity of one's choice.


NORTH CHILI

•Turks, Robert J. (Lewis), May 19, 2001. Pre-deceased by his wife, Carol A. Turks. Survived by his daughter, Kerry (Alistair) Lewis; two grandchildren, Robin and Cameron Lewis; three sisters, one brother.

SPENCERPORT

•Sutphen, Emily A. (Messmer), May 19, 2001. Survived by her loving husband, James; sons, Michael (Melissa) and Kurt; grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas and Tucker; brother, Heinz Messmer of Germany; sisters, Elsie Schurr and Irma Saufferer; sister-in-law, Jean (Don) Leiske; brothers-in-law, Fred and Roger Sutphen; nieces and nephews. Emily was a retiree of the Rochester City School District.

•Zona, Thomas Charles, Suddenly, Thursday, May 24, 2001 at age 16. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Lee (Joseph L. Marcone) Zona; father, Sgt. Charles J. Zona, GPD, retired; sister, Cassandra Joy (Michael Tudisco) Zona; brother, Nicholas Paul Zona; nephew, Michael Joseph Zona; grandmother, Angeline F. Zona; best friend, Brian Loughner; great aunt, Evelyn (John) Fennessy; and other great aunts, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tom was a sophomore at E. J. Wilson High School in Spencerport and a camper and wrangler at Camp Li-Lo-Li.
