Spencerport School District
schedules revised budget vote June 12

The Spencerport Board of Education will put a revised school budget of $48,670,696 up for a vote on June 12.

The budget hearing, with detailed information about the revised proposal, is scheduled for June 5 at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building, 71 Lyell Avenue. The budget presentation will detail the district's proposed 2001-2002 budget of $48,670,696. According to a press release from the school district, the revised budget reduces the estimated tax rates while preserving the district's educational program. The estimated tax rate for Ogden, Greece and Gates residents would be $21.58 per $1,000 assessed value. For Parma residents, the estimate is $22.96. That translates into a 4.4 percent increase for Ogden residents, a 7.15 percent increase for Gates and Greece residents and an 8.1 percent increase for Parma residents. The exact tax rate information will not be available until the state budget and equalization rates are finalized.

The $215,000 in budget adjustments comes from three sources. The district will cut $40,000 from the original budget; the board will apply $100,000 from the fund balance; and updated estimates indicate the district may receive an additional $75,000 in state and federal aid.

There are three factors affecting the revised budget, according to information provided by the district. First, with updated information about state aid, the district is now expecting an additional $75,000. Second, the board of education has decided to apply $100,000 from the fund balance. Finally, the administration has made an additional $40,000 in budget cuts.

Residents who want more information on the budget can call Superintendent Phillip Langton, 349-5101 or Assistant Superintendent for Businesses Fred Seiler, 349-5111. They may also contact any member of the Spencerport Board of Education. In addition, copies of the budget are available for review at the Administration Building, at each of the district's schools and at the Ogden Public Library. Residents can also find more information on the budget on the district's web site, www.spencerportschools.org.

The vote on the revised budget is Tuesday, June 12 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Administration Building, 71 Lyell Avenue.
