Students learn lifesaving techniques

Safety is part of the curriculum in Laurie Pierce's Early Childhood Development class at WE-MO-CO Career and Technical Education Center. Students in Pierce's class recently learned infant/child and adult CPR. It is these life-saving techniques that Pierce hopes will carry through if students are faced with an emergency situation.

Students received training this year by Jeffrey Cunningham, from the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance. Cunningham works through the American Red Cross and provides the six-hour training course in CPR for Professional Rescuers. Students must score an 80 percent or above on a written exam and complete a practical demonstration. Upon successful completion of the training course, students are certified for one-year.
