Barn praising exhibit opens
The Clarendon Historical Society is about to unveil the much-anticipated photo project of pre-WWII Clarendon barns. The photo exhibit will open on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. A reception with refreshments will be held at the Society's barn at Farwell's Settlement museum. Owners of these barns, and anyone interested in barns, is invited to attend the opening reception or visit the museum on Sundays during the summer months when the images can be seen and enjoyed. more

Contestants invited to enter Holley Sesquicentennial Pageant
The Village of Holley plans to present the Holley Sesquicentennial Pageant to choose representatives from three age groups to reign over the Sesquicentennial Festivities on August 4. more

Family gun event puts emphasis on safety
The Holley Rod & Gun Club, in conjunction with the National Rifle Association, is holding a Family Fun Shooting Event, Saturday, June 30, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the club's grounds on Pumping Station Road. more

High school seniors integrate skills for final project
This time of year high school seniors usually have their minds on proms, exams, senior pranks, and, of course, graduation. But for Spencerport seniors and those in other districts as well, things are a bit different. While they are probably thinking of the events and ceremonies of senior year, they are also involved in one of the most inclusive projects of their twelve years of public education - the Senior Integrated Project, or SIP. more

New Clarendon supervisor completes first month in office
Richard Moy, Clarendon's newly appointed supervisor, has spent his first month in office acclimating himself to the workings of the town offices and making preparations for the impending budget process. Moy was appointed May 8 after receiving support from the Town Board and the Republican Committee in his bid for the supervisor seat. He will lead the Town of Clarendon until the November election. more

Spencerport info meetings update residents on utility rates, upgrades
As part of an ongoing effort to not only inform the public about capital projects and rate increases, but to involve them in decision making and management of public utilities, the Village of Spencerport has scheduled two public information meetings Wednesday, June 20. more

Troop 99 scout earns Eagle rank
Michael Sanger, son of Stan and Ann Sanger of Hilton, was awarded Eagle Scout rank at a Court of Honor on June 3. Friends and family were in attendance at the Hilton Firemen's Exempt Club to see him receive Boy Scouting's highest achievement. more

Vintage takes the stage at Eagle Creek bash
A group of friends who enjoy playing music for the love of music will be part of Eagle Creek Marina's Independence Day Weekend Bash on June 29. more

Brockport Creek clean-up plan available
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and the Monroe County Health Department invite residents to a June 20 open house for the former General Electric Black & Decker site. more

Canal bridges open - and close
The bridge work on the Washington Street Lift Bridge over the canal in Spencerport will be completed two days ahead of schedule and will be open on Monday morning, June 18, according to the NYSDOT. more

Chili Lions install officers
At their last meeting for 2000-2001, on June 11, members of the Lions Club of Chili held their installation of officers for next year, conducted by Past Council Chairman Lion Ray Ernenwein. more

DEC attempts purple loosestrife control
The Galerucella beetles, a biological control agent on purple loosestrife, emerged from hibernation at the Oak Orchard and Tonawanda Wildlife Management Areas during the first 10 days of May. By May 20, the insets had deposited approximately 20 percent of their eggs and were ready for movement. Transfer at this time insures that most of the eggs are deposited at the new release sites. more

Food drive hits record in Hilton
The clerks, rural and city letter carriers, and management of the Hilton Post Office would like to thank the residents of Hilton for their donations during the week of the letter carriers' food drive, June 4 through June 9. more

Free Fishing Day offered at Hamlin Beach
The Town of Hamlin and the New York State Office of Parks is sponsoring a Free Fishing Day at Hamlin Beach State Park on June 24 from noon to 4 p.m. in Area 1, East Shelter, adjacent to the fishing pier. A limited amount of tickets are still available in the Hamlin Town Clerk's Office for those who wish to obtain free entrance into the park for the event. more

Orleans County American Legion announces nursing scholarship winners
The Orleans County American Legion Nursing Scholarship Committee has announced the 2001 winners. The winners are Tanya Smith and Andrea Strong. This year it was decided to award two $500 nursing scholarships. more

Park Ridge Youth Outreach offers summer youth programs
The Park Ridge Youth Outreach Program will be offering several workshops and programs for youth of various ages throughout the summer: Home Alone and Safe - Ages 8 to 11 years old, July 12, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; August 16, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Babysitting Training - Ages 11 to 13 years old. July 17, 10 a.m. to noon; August 14, 10 a.m. to noon. more

Parma Public Library schedules summer program
The Parma Library will offer a full range of programs for children of all ages this summer. Pre-school Story Hours for children three to five years old are a blend of stories, songs, games, films and fun. more

Pet Pride opens new shelter
Pet Pride of New York, Inc., the Humane Society for Cats only, is officially opening its new shelter with a ribbon cutting ceremony and membership drive on June 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. more

Seymour Library kicks-off summer reading
On June 23, the Seymour Library will host its kick-off for the 2001: A Reading Odyssey summer reading program. This program is open to children preschool to fifth grade and will officially run from July 9 to August 17. more

Thanks to all of the boys and girls at the Bernabi School who collected pennies ... 174,542 of them, in one week! The reason they were busy collecting all those pennies was for the Relay For Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. more

C-C student recognized as outstanding senior
Churchville-Chili Senior High School student David Drew is one of 31 Monroe County seniors honored as a Monore County Council of Superintendents Outstanding Student on May 24. David and the other students were invited to attend the Outstanding Senior Recognition Dinner, the only program that recognizes excellence in all county and city high schools at one event. more

Hilton High School seniors' portfolios recognized
On May 31 at the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Printing, two Hilton High School seniors, Phuong La and Trieu La, received awards for placing first and second respectively in the Rochester Club of Printing House Craftsmen's annual Portfolio Competition. more

Hilton K-6 students' last day of school June 20
The Hilton School District elementary school students will have a full day of school Wednesday, June 20, the last day of school. Teachers are reporting to school for a superintendent's conference day on June 21. more

Spencerport 2001-2002 School Budget approved by voters
Residents of the Spencerport School dis-trict have approved a $48,670,696 budget for the 2001-2002 school year. The vote was 2,100 to 1,656. more

Spencerport student recognized as outstanding senior
Spencerport High School student Tonya Burek received the Outstanding Senior award for 2001, joining 31 other Monroe County seniors. The award is sponsored by the Monore County Council of Superintendents. Tonya and the other students were invited to attend the Outstanding Senior Recognition Dinner on May 24, where they each received a gift and a plaque. more

'Practical PC for seniors' coming up at Genesee Orleans Center
Genesee Community College will offer its "Practical Personal Computers for Seniors" course at the Orleans Campus Center, Fridays, June 29 to August 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The course is ideal for adults over the age of 50 who wish to learn the workings of the personal computer. more

Senior citizen miniature golf league to start
The Hilton-Parma Senior Citizens are once again forming their Miniature Golf League at Swingers Miniature & Batting Cages at the corner of Manitou Road and Ridge Road West. more

Bright Raven Gymnasts compete in upstate championships
The Level 4 and 5 teams of Bright Raven Gymnastics traveled to Utica June 1-3 to compete in the final Championship meets of the season. This three-day USA Gymnastics sanctioned event included approximately 500 gymnasts from 40 Upstate New York teams. more

County teams with Brigade to offer football clinics
Children, ages seven to 14, are invited to participate in Monroe County Parks Department Football Clinics with the Rochester Brigade. Children will learn football fundamentals and the differences between the indoor and outdoor versions of the game from Head Coach Mark Saunders and select Brigade players. more

Spencerport girls win two tourneys
The Girls' Under 17 Travel Soccer team of the Spencerport Soccer Club has won championships in two recent outdoor tournaments held in Hilton and Chili. The team compiled a 4-0 record in the Hilton Tournament and an identical record in the Chili Tournament including a 1-0 win in the championship game. more

Sports camps offered through Hilton-Parma Recreation
Hilton-Parma Recreation offers over two dozen summer camps for every level of experience and age, instructed by some of the area's top coaches and athletes. Those include several Hilton Varsity Coaches such as Rob Steinorth and Tara Merino in volleyball, Kim Bellnier in field hockey, Paul David for soccer, Rich LiPani for football, and Ory Mee in baseball and basketball who will teach each child the techniques that have made their teams powerhouses in Monroe County, Section Five, and New York state. Many present varsity athletes will be on hand to provide an example of what the beginners may become. more

Tennis skills classes offered through H-P Rec
Hilton Varsity men's and women's coaches, Joe Brock and Chris Monfiletto, and their scholastic players, will offer a free Tennis Camp on July 2, 3, 5, and 6 at Hilton High School for Hilton-Parma youth 10 to 14 years of age. The girls' camp runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and the boys' camp is offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required. more

Tot Skate Park open in Parma
The Town of Parma opened their new tot skate area at Parma Town Hall Park just adjacent to the existing 13,000 square foot Skate Park. The planning process for this exciting facility began last fall following input from park users concerning inline skate and skateboard opportunities for beginners and young kids. Funding for the Tot Skate Park came from a United Way mini-grant program administered through the Rochester Monroe County Youth Bureau. more
