Barn praising exhibit opens

The Clarendon Historical Society is about to unveil the much-anticipated photo project of pre-WWII Clarendon barns. The photo exhibit will open on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. A reception with refreshments will be held at the Society's barn at Farwell's Settlement museum. Owners of these barns, and anyone interested in barns, is invited to attend the opening reception or visit the museum on Sundays during the summer months when the images can be seen and enjoyed.

Clarendon photographers Ginny Flynn, Jim Patt, Andy Rock and Al Isselhard took photos for the project. The photo group has tried to portray all 110 existing early Clarendon barns in their best "pose" and, in addition, have tried to gather an archival record. Their combined talents document these wonderful structures during the four seasons and prints/negatives of all these barns will be kept in five photo albums for historical record. Enlargements of many barn photos have been made and each has been cataloged with information about age, style, builder's name, unusual history, etc. To complement the exhibit, the Society will also have a display of barn artifacts from Clarendon. Some older photos have been assembled, as well as two paintings of Clarendon barns.

The Clarendon Historical Society exhibit on "Barn Praising" was made possible by a grant from the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council. It is hoped that "Barn Praising" will raise the appreciation of not only barn owners, but also all that view them as a part of Clarendon's rural heritage worth preserving.
