Vintage takes the stage at Eagle Creek bash

A group of friends who enjoy playing music for the love of music will be part of Eagle Creek Marina's Independence Day Weekend Bash on June 29.

Vintage, six musicians who recently released a self-named CD, are known for their blends of favorites from the 60s to the present.

The band consists of two genres of musicians. The first consists of guitarist, George Protchenko, percussionist Glenn Marcus, keyboard player and guitarist, Jim Freemesser and bass player, John Nicolosi - all products of the 60s era who abandoned their musical careers to "settle down and start families." The second group, comprised of former members of the Gerber Ryan Band - guitarist and keyboard player, Jeff Gerber and drummer, Rich Kirby - are musicians of the 80s. Like their predecessors: they too abandoned their musical careers to settle down; but did it two decades later. As fate would have it, just before they settled down, Gerber Ryan had unknowingly inspired their 60s counterparts to reunite: Vintage percussionist Glenn Marcus happened to catch the Gerber Ryan Band performing at the Airport Holiday Inn and soon became close friends with the Niagara Falls based group. Marcus then contacted Freemesser and Protchenko, former co-members in the band, "The Troop," and brought them to see the Gerber Ryan Band. Marcus and company were inspired to start playing again and recruited bassist John Nicolosi, formerly of the band, "The Accents." The newly formed entity became the core of Vintage.

However, it seemed apparent to the group that they were going to become a 60s group, with their futures confined to playing selective classic rock venues. Enter fate again - Jeff Gerber, having moved to Rochester to begin another career, realized the concerns of his friends in Vintage and offered his assistance in helping the group break out of the classic rock genre into a more contemporary mode. Six months later, Jeff joined the group, on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, a move that ultimately proved to be the turning point of Vintage. Shortly thereafter, Jeff recruited drummer Rich Kirby out of retirement, forming Vintage as it is today.

Their June 29 performance is at the Marina's celebration, Route 237, Kendall. Vintage will also perform at the Town of Henrietta's July 4 celebration at Henrietta Park on Calkins Road.
