Spencerport 2001-2002 School Budget approved by voters

Residents of the Spencerport School dis-trict have approved a $48,670,696 budget for the 2001-2002 school year. The vote was 2,100 to 1,656.

The June 12 referendum followed a 21-vote defeat of the first budget in May. The approved budget reflects changes that reduced the amount of total taxes collected by $215,000. The estimated tax rate for Ogden residents will increase 4.4 percent; 7.15 percent for Greece and Gates residents; and 8.1 percent for Parma residents. Residents participating in the STAR program will see an average estimated decrease of about $100 from last year's tax bill, according to district officials.

The budget adjustments were in three areas, according to district officials. The school board cut $40,000 from the original proposal, with the elimination of some field trips, a reduction in staff development, and reductions in other areas. In addition, the board applied $100,000 from the fund balance and also received updated information on the amount of government aid the district expects to receive.
