Route 33 in Bergen being resurfaced

NYSDOT maintenance workers have begun a highway project to resurface 3.7 miles of Route 33 between West Bergen Road and Route 19 in the Town of Bergen, Genesee County. Motorists should allow extra time to pass through the highway work zone.

The work began June 18 and paving is expected to be completed in approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Shoulders, driveways and intersection work will take approximately another two weeks.

Traffic is being handled with flaggers and a pilot truck that leads one-way traffic through the length of the work zone. A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is posted at the work zone. Fines for speeding are doubled inside a work zone.

This project is just southwest of Interstate 490 at the Exit 2 (Bergen) interchange. On average, more than 6,000 vehicles travel Route 33 between Route 237 and Route 19 every day.
