Martial Arts Instructor Cyndy Jones of Bergen was recently promoted to ShiChi Dan (seventh degree black belt) by Okinawan Grand Karate Master Kichiro Shimabuku. She is the highest ranked female instructor in his Isshin Ryu World Karate Association (IWKA). This promotion was a great honor for her and for her Collamer-Jones (Gillam Grant) Karate School as well.

Jones, who has known Master Shimabuku for more than 20 years, trained with him in Okinawa last fall and more recently in Indianapolis where he held his IWKA World Tournament. Jones hosted the Shimabuku world tournament in 1994, and he has visited her school many times.
