Sharon and Mike Dorris of Hubbard Drive, North Chili celebrate their 40th anniversary July 22, 2001. They were married in Arcade, NY. Their maid of honor was the bride's sister, Marilyn, and the best man was the groom's uncle, Rodney Morgan.


Michelle Swanger, a junior majoring in psychology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Swanger, a graduate of Holley High School, is a resident of Holley.


Anna Marshall, of Churchville-Chili High School, has been named an MCC Scholar. To be eligible for consideration of an MCC scholar award, a student must rank in the upper 20 percent of his/her high school class and/or attain an academic average of 85 or above by the beginning of senior year. Candidates must also demonstrate participation and achievement in extracurricular and/or community activities.


Laurel McNall, of Spencerport, and Daniel Surdyk, also of Spencerport, have been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at Canisius College.


Tiffany Kwiatkowski, daughter of Mark and Bette Kwiatkowski, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2001 semester at SUNY Buffalo.


Derek Polakis, of North Chili, placed third in the welding competition at the National Skills USA/VICA Championship held in Kansas City, Missouri in June. Polakis was a member of the Alfred State College delegation.


Wendy Slattery, a freshman majoring in biological science/ molecular genetics at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Slattery, a graduate of Brockport High School, is a resident of Brockport.


John Ayers, 17, a senior at Hilton High School, has been selected as one of New York's two delegates to the American Legion Boys Nation held at Mary Mount University July 20-28. Ayers was selected as a delegate to the 2001 American Legion Boys Nation on the basis of his academic record and leadership qualities. He was also a standout in activities during the recently completed American Legion Boys State program in New York.


Michael E. Burel, son of Dr. Edward and Regina Burel of Spencerport, graduated magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University with a bachelor's degree in two majors: biology and chemistry. He was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Golden Key honor societies. He also served as president of the local chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. He will be attending the University of Buffalo School of Medicine this fall where he plans to pursue a career in surgery.


Scott Verbridge, a junior majoring in physics at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester.

Verbridge, a graduate of Hilton Central High School, is a Hilton resident.


Andrew Vasicek, a junior majoring in history and biological science/ecology and evoluntionary biology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester.

Vasicek, a graduate of Greece Athena High School in Rochester, is a resident of Brockport.


Carrie LaDue, daughter of Gay and Greg LaDue of Hamlin, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at Keuka College. LaDue, a freshman, is studying business administration.


The following local students were awarded degrees at the May 2001 Roberts Wesleyan College Commencement: Kevin Brenner of Spencerport, Danielle Franca of Rochester, Joy Hogan of North Chili, Beth Lievense of Brockport, Julie Rose of North Chili, and Aaron Tesavis of Spencerport.


Gregg A. Pacelli, of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the fourth-quarter at R.I.T.


Genesee Community College has named 253 students to the President's List for the spring 2001 semester. Among those honored were:

from Churchville: Michele Scialdone;
from Hamlin: Brandy L. Santella;
from Holley - Jaime Dengal, Alana Fabry, Katherine Poduslo, Kim Sadwick, and Nancy Wolf;
from Kendall - Melinda Bilohlavek, Carla Fry, and Marie Gallagher;
from Chili - Barbarajean Przybyl;
and from Spencerport - Angela Herrick.


Lynn and Naomi Newcomb, of the Ogden/Chili Nothnagle Realtors office, have received the "Lister of the Month" award for June 2001. The couple added eight new listings during the month. They have been in the Real Estate business since 1995. Naomi is an Associate Broker, and this is the second time she has earned this award. Lynn is also a licensed real estate agent, and assists Naomi in her work.


Janet Wetzel has been named the "Top Salesperson of the Month" according to Bob Malone, manager of the Nothnagle's Ogden/Chili office. Her production for the month of June 2001 was well over $1 million.

Wetzel has received many awards in the past, including Sales Master Award 2000 from the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors, Zenith Award 2000 from Women's Council of Realtors, Nothnagle's Top 25 1998, Ogden/Chili's Top 10. She has been associated with Nothnagle for 20 years.

She has lived in LeRoy for 35 years, and is the president of the LeRoy Business Council. In the past, she has served as chairman of the LeRoy Tourism Committee, has been the president of the History of Art Club and has held several offices in the First Presbyterian Church.


Marine Corps Pfc. Chad C. Arva, son of Dori A. Arva of Hamlin, and Ron R. Arva of Holley, recently completed the Marine Corps' Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense course. Arva is a 2000 graduate of Kendall High School of Kendall and joined the Marine Corps in August 2000.
