Grants for area localities announced

New York State Assemblyman Charles Nesbitt (R,C-Albion) has announced the recent award of several records mainte-nance/preservation grants to area localities. The grants, provided by the New York State Archives, a program of the State Education Department, are awarded to community organizations and localities to help them manage their records in the most efficient and effective manner. The grants are funded from the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund, first established in 1989, and derives revenues from a per-centage of fees paid when documents are filed or recorded with county clerks or the Register of the City of New York.

The grants awards are as follows:
•$67,159 for Genesee County Historian for microfilming projects
•$4,800 to Village of Oakfield for records creation and systems design
•$19,478 for Brockport Central School District for inventory and planning
•$22,566 for Churchville Chili Central School District for active records mainte-nance
•$15,858 for Hilton Central School District for inactive records maintenance
•$20,816 for Spencerport Central School District for inactive records maintenance
•$11,146 for Village of Hilton for educa-tional uses of local government records
•$56,324 for Village of Spencerport for records creation and system design
•$46,820 for Orleans County for records creations and system design.
