VFW honors local commander

Lester G. Magoffin of Byron, formerly of Spencerport, has achieved All American status as a Veterans of Foreign Wars District Commander. Commander Magoffin will be recognized at the 102nd annual VFW national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in August by VFW Commander-in-Chief John F. Gwizdak.

Gwizdak said, "Magoffin, Commander of District 7, in the Department of New York, is one of only 23 VFW District Commanders world wide selected for All American District Commander Distinguished Division. The criteria for this honor is based on outstanding achievements in membership growth, Buddy Poppy sales and participation in other VFW programs that benefit veterans and their communities. The title of All American Commander is the most prestigious honor given by your organization."

The VFW assists all veterans and their families in obtaining veterans entitlements and other services. In addition, the organization works for the well being of those serving on active duty, in the National Guard and the Reserve. Founded in 1899, its 1.9 million members are located in nearly 9,500 Posts worldwide.
