Brockport team places 17th at international bowling finals

The Brockport father and son team of Ray and Chris Bardol finished 17th in the finals of the 26th annual Qubica USA International Family Tournament in Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, July 26-29.

The pair earned the expense paid trip by winning the New York State Level Championship in Buffalo June 9. The Bardols were entered in the Parent/Youth 12 & Under Division.

"We had a great time in Texas," said Ray, co-owner of Brockport Bowl, where the team had originally qualified. "Not only was the tournament exciting, we got to see a Texas Rangers baseball game and Chris got to hang around with some of the top professional players like Brian Voss, Bob Learn Jr. and (2000 PBA Player of the Year) Norm Duke. Chris and (ABC and PBA Hall of Famer) Dick Weber were inseparable."

There were representatives from 36 states, Puerto Rico and Canada at the international finals. A total of $30,000 in scholarships was handed out. Chris, who recently turned 13, earned a $250 scholarship for his team's finish. Chris carried a 179 average last season at Brockport Bowl in the Saturday Juniors League, while Ray had a high mark of 209, competing in several leagues at Brockport.
