Brockport Rotary Club wins Golden Duck Award

Andy Pacitto, president of the Brockport Rotary Club, was presented with the Golden Duck Award at the August 7 BISCO meeting. This trophy is presented to the service club or community organization that sells the most Duck Derby tickets. The Rotary Club sold $1,955 worth of Duck Derby tickets. Mary Montgomery, co-chair of the Duck Derby, said that was an amazing show of community support since the Rotary Club has only 21 members. Members have been selling tickets since May. The Brockport Rotary Club will keep the trophy until next May when BISCO will again promote this friendly competition among the service clubs and community organizations.

The Duck Derby is a highlight of the Brockport Summer Arts Festival. Over 5,000 plastic ducks will make their way down the Erie Canal Raceway August 12. Twelve prizes are awarded to the people holding the "lucky ducks." The first six ducks and the last six ducks to cross the finish line win.

The Duck Derby is sponsored by Brockport Integrated Service and Community Organizations (BISCO) and Lifetime Assistance Foundation, Inc. BISCO is a collective undertaking of Brockport Service Clubs and Lodges including Elks, Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary. It also includes representation from local community organizations including SUNY Brockport and Brockport Fire Department. BISCO is dedicated to projects in the local community, which primarily benefits children and youth. Lifetime Assistance Foundation directly supports programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Rotary is a community service club with local, district, national and international members. The Brockport Rotary's service area includes the general Brockport community. The club supports projects such as Camp Haccamo and the Wegman's LPGA. Anyone who wishes to be of service to the local community may join. They meet most Thursdays at the Pinewood Country Club.
