Parma's Town Celebration, "Park It In Parma," was a perfect way to fill Town Park with an evening of spectacular family fun, according to town officials.

Everything seemed expanded at this year's event, as the celebration doubled its local organization food vendors, the pole vault competition saw individual best efforts, "The World's Largest Egg Drop" had an 8-foot chicken drop 70 feet to a successful landing, and the main entertainment, "The Blues Family," needed an expanded stage to accompany its eleven-member rhythm and blues review. In the park facilities, which included a brand new playground structure and 35 campers (double last year's number), a fantastic fireworks display was a treat to many spectators.

Parma Town Board members say they'd like to thank the large number of people who came out to play in the community.

The Town of Parma held the "World's Largest Egg Drop" as part of their Parma Celebration on August 4. The 200 pound chicken began its journey to 70 feet in the air aided by a cherry picker provided by Sign Maintenance, Brockport. Children involved in the Hilton-Parma Recreation Summer Playground Program built the chicken. It took a month of effort to put it together, had a 10 ft. wingspan and was made out of wood, foam rubber, duct tape and paper mache. The chicken crumbled on impact. Success! Musa Kotin holds the unbroken raw egg aloft for all to see, much to organizer Steve Fowler's delight. The "World's Largest Egg Drop" was no yoke after all! Funding for this event was provided by the Rochester/Monroe County Youth Bureau's Youth Initiative Project.
