named NBA Assistant Coach

Andy Greer, an 18-year college coach veteran, was named assistant coach/scout for Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy, the New York Knickerbockers announced last week.

Greer, 38, played basketball at SUNY Brockport and graduated in 1984 with a BS in Physical Education. He also received his master's degree in education from Mansfield State College. Greer has spent the last 18 years as an assistant coach or head coach in the college ranks. Most recently, the Manhattan-native served as interim head coach at Northern Illinois for the 2000-01 season. Prior to his four-year stint as an assistant coach with the Huskies, Greer spent four seasons as the head coach and assistant director of athletics for the United States Merchant Marine Academy. With an overall record of 51-52 for the Mariners, Greer turned a struggling program around and finished with a 19-7 record and a NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 1996-97.
