Support offered for Parkinson's caregivers

The Genesee County Office for the Aging and United Memorial Medical Center co-sponsor the Caregiver's Support Group and Parkinson's Disease Support Group. The group meets on the second Monday of each month from 11 a.m. - 12 noon at the Genesee County Office for the Aging, 2 Bank Street, Batavia. The support group meetings are open to those with Parkinson's Disease and their caregivers.

Participants may attend the Batavia Congregate Mealsite to take part in lunch. Lunch reservations must be made by 1 p.m. on Friday, September 7. Although there is no fee for the lunch for those over 60, a suggested contribution of $2.50 is greatly appreciated. Guests under the age of 60 may also enjoy lunch at the cost of $4 per person.

The September 10 meeting will feature Dr. Don Reiff, speech pathologist, who will present on the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy program for people with Parkinson's disease. He has begun treating patients in Batavia.

Also, an exercise program specific to physical demands of people with Parkinson's Disease is offered at The Office for the Aging at 2 Bank Street, Batavia every Monday and Friday at 1 p.m. For information about the exercise class, contact Healthy Living at 344-5331.
