Colleen Amundson and Amy Fitzsimmons, both 2001 graduates of Churchville-Chili High School, have been awarded four-year scholarships to attend College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Fitzsimmons will be studying physical therapy while Amundson is enrolled in the school of communications.

Both have been awarded $4,000 annual Catherine McAuley scholarships that recognize and reward their "record of leadership, volunteerism and participation in a broad array of extracurricular activities." Additionally, they each will receive $2,500 annual academic scholarships.


Dr. Robert Judd, a 1981 graduate of Spencerport High School, has recently accepted a position of Associate Professor at Duke University at Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Judd will be establishing and co-directing a Center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Treatment of Cardiology patients in the Cardiology Unit at the Duke University Medical Center.

Currently, Dr. Judd is a tenured Associate Professor at the Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He is the son of Burt and Pat Judd of Spencerport.


A Denison University first-year student from Brockport is among those named as winners of the University Scholarship.

Nathaniel Emmerson, son of Bruce and Debbie Emmerson of Crestview Drive, Brockport is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.

Among Denison's most prestigious awards, the University Scholarship is three-quarter tuition and is renewable for four years if the student achieves and maintains a stipulated grade point average.


David P. Hossenlopp, son of Roberta and James Hossenlopp of Spencerport, has enrolled for fall 2001 admission at Rochester Institute of Technology. Hossenlopp, recipient of an RIT Quality Cup Scholarship, will major in mechanical engineering in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering.

He is a June 2001 Spencerport High School graduate.


Kenneth and Mary Eichas-Gavigan announce the arrival of two new grandchildren. Their daughter, Victoria (Gavigan) and her husband, Kenneth Baert, brought their daughter, Katia A., three years old, and son, Cody A., 1 1/2 years old, from a Bulgarian orphanage to America recently. Katia and Cody are brother and sister and join their 'forever' family in the Detroit area. Patiently waiting for the family return was the dog Cato.

Vicky is a 1978 graduate of Hilton Central School and is currently teaching first grade in a School of the Arts in the home district. Ken is a Network Engineer at EDS. He described his feelings by saying: 'I am so very happy to bring my children home to America and be a family."


Ithaca College recently named the following students to the Ithaca College dean's list for the spring semester.
Angela DeFelice '03, of Bergen, a planned studies major and graduate of Byron-Bergen High School.
Darcie Schwarz '03, of Churchville, a drama major and graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
Jessica Rossi '04, of North Chili, an exploratory major.
Emily Levitt '03, of Rochester, a journalism major and graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
Cindi Galvano '02, of Spencerport, a clinical science major and graduate of Gates Chili High School.


Hilton resident Nicole M. Becker was among nearly 800 Buffalo State College students who participated recently in the college's 2001 Honors Convocation, held in April.

The event, which honors those students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 after the completion of at least 45 credit hours, marked the kickoff of the final phase of the college's academic year, which culminated with the conferring of undergraduate degrees on May 12.


Laura Bertrand, daughter of Doug Bertrand and Cindy Tutton of Holley, has been awarded the prestigious NYS Home Bureau Scholarship - McMahon Endowed Scholarship. Bertrand is a 1999 graduate of Kendall High School and currently a junior at Clarkson University, majoring in civil and environmental engineering.

The scholarship was established in 1983 by the State Executive Board of the New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc. in honor of Louise Villeneuve McMahon. Recipients must have an academic GPA of 2.5, major in civil engineering, reside in one of the 36 counties of New York state in which there are organized Home Bureau Chapters, and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable through and including the senior year.


Joan Greeno, Associate Broker of Nothnagle Realtor's Ogden Chili office, was honored with the salesperson of the month award for the month of July, according to Robert K. Malone, branch manager. Her volume exceeded $1,115,000.

During her 17 years of service with Nothnagle, Greeno has received numerous other awards and designations including Lister of the Month, the "Pinnacle Award," which is awarded by the Rochester Women's Council of Realtors for outstanding commitment and service to customers, Greater Rochester Association of Realtors Sales Master Award, Ogden Chili's "Top 10 Award" and Nothnagle's coveted "Top 25" award out of 525 agents in the company for each of the last three consecutive years.

Greeno, a Broker Associate and notary, primarily works in residential sales, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, townhomes and investment properties. She also has extensive experience in new home construction and relocation services. Greeno also served as manager of the Ogden Chili office during the mid 90s.

As an active member of Peace Memorial Church in North Chili, Greeno has served on several committees as well as being a former trustee. She resides in Chili with her husband, Larry, who is Vice President for Planned Giving at Roberts Wesleyan College. She has four grown children and seven grandchildren.


Navy Airman Recruit Kenneth L. Rothfuss, Jr., a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School, Spencerport, completed the Aviation Electrician's Mate Course located at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Pensacola, Florida.

During the five-month course, Rothfuss received training in electrical theory and circuitry to prepare to work on the electrical components of jet aircraft.

Rothfuss also studied a variety of aircraft electrical systems including electro-hydraulic, automatic flight control, and electrical power generation and distribution.


Army Pvt. Ryan S. Hackett has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Hackett is the son of Stephen Hackett of Skidmore Drive, Spencerport, and Patricia Hackett of North Avenue, Rochester.

The private is a 2001 graduate of Greece Olympia High School.


Rachael L. O'Connell has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington.

The cadet is currently a student at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia.

O'Connell is the daughter of Raymond A. O'Connell of South Union Street, Rochester and Kathleen B. Harrington of McKenzie Pond Road, Saranac Lake, NY. She is a 1998 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Brian S. Murray has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington.

The cadet is currently a student at the University of Dayton, Ohio.

Murray is the son of Patrick H. and Jane Murray of Brewerton Drive, Rochester. He is a 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.
