The Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor Planning Commission has announced the final appointments to complete representation on the regional body.

Created by New York State Legislation, the Planning Commission has been working since January 2001 to develop a management plan for the Heritage Corridor. Wayne County, Monroe County, Orleans County, Niagara County and Erie County are included in the plan. The New York State Heritage Area Program has four program goals: the preservation of historic resources; recreational use of these resources; economic revitalization through public and private investment; and education about local and regional heritage.

Planning Commission appointments were made by the Governor's Office, the New York State Senate and Assembly, and each County Executive.

Planning Commissioners in the Westside News readership area include: C. William Lattin, Historian, Albion; Joyce Lobene, Nothnagle Realtors, Spencerport; and Nathan M. Lyman, Esq., Albion.
