These students were promoted black belt ranks at Caparco Karate and Kobudo of Chili. The rank of black belt Shodan level was awarded to Clayton Stieve of Chili, second degree black belt to Mike Foki of Greece and a fourth degree black belt to Grover Preston of Livonia.


Megan Kelley, who attends Spencerport High School, has successfully completed the Summer 2001 Art Institute at Oswego State University of New York. Kelley spent two weeks on the Oswego State campus immersed in an intense Art program that included classes in painting, photography, ceramics, computer graphic imagery, sculpture, fabric design, and drawing. In addition, the program included a trip to Ottawa, Canada to visit museums and art galleries. Kelley earned three transcripted credit hours from Oswego State.


Eric Meade has started the Master's in Business Administration (MBA) program at the Institut Europeen d' Administration des Affaires (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau, France. Although classes are taught in English, the intensive one-year program draws students from around the world and requires proficiency in at least three languages. After an interview in London in July, Meade received a full scholarship from Marakon Associates, an international strategy consulting firm with offices in the U.S., London, and Singapore. The field of business is new to Meade, who has spent the last five years as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He is a 1992 graduate of Brockport High School and the son of Richard and Sandra Meade of Brockport.


Laurie Butler, of Brockport, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2001 semester at Canisius College. Butler is a senior majoring in management and marketing.


William O'Brien Taylor, of Spencerport, has successfully completed California Highway Patrol (CHP) cadet training, and has been assigned to duty at CHP's South Los Angeles Area office.

Officer Taylor is a graduate of E.J. Wilson High School in Spencerport. He served in the United States Marine Corps for six years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was employed with the United States Postal Service before joining the CHP.

CHP cadet training includes emergency vehicle operation, weapons use, physical methods of arrest, enforcement tactics, physical conditioning, the vehicle code book and other laws, crash investigation and other subjects pertaining to law enforcement.


Alan R. Fowler has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. At the camp, cadets complete a five-week course of intensive military leadership training and evaluation exercises in communications, management and survival training. After successfully completing advanced camp and graduating from college, the cadet will be commissioned as a second lieutenant to serve in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve.

The cadet is currently a student at Clarkson University, Potsdam. Fowler is the son of Gail M. Fowler of Spencerport. He is a 1995 graduate of Spencerport High School.
