Hepatitis B Shot required for 7th grade school entry

Monroe County health officials have issued a reminder that students who will be entering seventh grade this fall are required by state law to be vaccinated against hepatitis B, a serious liver disease. Students who have not received the shot will likely be excluded from school. Eighth graders who did not get the shot last year must also be vaccinated.

The Monroe County Health Department is providing extended immunization clinic hours to accommodate parent's schedules. Hepatitis B vaccination involves a series of three shots, administered over a six-month period. Other childhood vaccinations will also be administered, if necessary. The clinic schedule at the Monroe County Health Department, 111 Westfall Road, Rochester is every Wednesday - noon to 7 p.m. (regular hours); Tuesday, September 4, Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6 - 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Most immunizations are free for children 18 years of age and under. A parent or guardian must accompany the child and the child's immunization record and insurance card should be brought to the clinic. Residents may call 274-6151 for information.
