Video inspection of contaminated sewers to be conducted

General Electric and Black and Decker are continuing to investigate conditions on-site at the 200 State Street, Brockport facility. Recent efforts have included extensive soil sampling, mainly on the east side of the main manufacturing building. The companies are currently installing two new manholes on the north side of the building to provide access to portions of the storm sewer system that extend under the building. The storm sewer system will then be video inspected to gather information to design an adequate clean up plan for the on-site areas.

As part of the off-site work, video inspection of Tributary #3 storm sewer segments is planned. Even though the off-site sampling plans have not been completely finalized and approved, G.E. and Black and Decker have proposed to conduct the off-site video inspection work as one effort with the on-site work.

The storm sewer survey (video inspection of subsurface pipe) will be conducted at manholes/catch basins located along the public streets. This information will be used to evaluate equipment that may be used to clean storm sewer manholes, catch basins and piping. It may also be helpful in the selection of certain sampling locations along the piped segments of the storm sewer system. Department of Environmental Conservation staff will provide field oversight for this activity.
