Lakeside marks National Rehabilitation Awareness Week

In observance of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week September 16-22, Lakeside Health System, in conjuction with Lakeside Memorial Hospital and Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, are kicking off a new Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services (CRS) program.

Lakeside will be offering on-site rehabilitation services for Care Center residents as well as hospital patients. The program will provide a continuity in services for individuals.

Lakeside's staff is specially trained to provide quality rehabilitation. Diagnoses requiring rehabilitation include: stroke, joint replacement, hip fractures, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis, amputation and neurological disorders.

The common reasons for rehabilitation include loss of mobility or walking ability, loss of coordination and balance; difficulty in everyday activities such as eating, grooming, dressing or bathing; difficulty swallowing or speech and language problems; loss of memory and judgment difficulties.

To be eligible, the participant must be able to partake in an individualized therapy program; be in need of 24-hour rehabilitation care; be in stable medical condition; have a reasonable expectation for improvement; be motivated and be 18 years of age or older.

The staff of Lakeside, with the physicians, will offer various therapies, rehabilitation nursing and other support services. Social work services will help coordinate discharge planning and services for the clients when they are discharged from Lakeside's care.
