Moy wins Republican endorsement in Clarendon

Unofficial figures in Tuesday's Republican primary in the Town of Clarendon show Richard Moy receiving 242 votes, while challenger Joyce McMurray received 82.

Moy, who was appointed town supervisor on May 8, received the backing of both the town board and the Republican Committee in his bid for the supervisor position.

"I've always kind of felt that if you do your job, everything will fall into place," Moy said. "I will continue to do what I have been doing in my job as supervisor and see what happens in November."

Moy assumed the leadership roles in the Town of Clarendon upon the departure of interim supervisor Allen Robinson. As the former town assessor, he originally sought the position because he was concerned with the town's rising tax rates.

Moy said his 34 years as a former Eastman Kodak Company worker would offer valuable experience to the role of town supervisor. He cited his business background as a necessary attribute in the running of a municipality.

He explained that one of the most important tasks of supervisor is acting as the chief financial officer of the town.

Town Councilwoman Joyce McMurray, whose challenge of Moy's Republican endorsement forced the primary, said she is not certain what her plans are at this point. McMurray is wrapping up her first four-year term as councilwoman.

"I'm exploring my options," she said.

While it is too soon to know whether there will be opponents in November's election, Moy said he is prepared to accept the leadership role in the town.
