Brockport settles teachers' contract

After fifteen months without a contract, the Brockport Central School District and the Brockport Teachers Association reached a settlement last month. The new five-year contract is retroactive to July 1, 2000 - the date the previous three-year contract had expired.

The new contract calls for an average 4.2 percent pay increase per year. The new salary scale starts at $30,355 and grants teachers with 20 years experience a $61,703 salary.

Brockport teachers will pay more under the new contract for their health insurance. Previously teachers paid 10 percent of the cost of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, with the district paying 90 percent. The new shares are 15 percent by teachers, 85 percent by the district. Brockport also offers a Blue Choice Select plan which is totally funded by the district.

In-service training pay was raised from $12 to $15 per hour in the new contract. Curriculum writing pay was raised from $19 to $22 per hour.

According to Superintendent James Fallon, no change was made to the school day or the school calendar.
