Brockport to consider new permit process

Brockport building code enforcer Scott Zarnstorff has proposed a new permit process that would require commercial property owners to apply for a permit when renovating or transferring owner-ship of the property.

Zarnstorff told the village board at its October 15 meeting that often a new business moves into a building and makes what appears to be minor changes that actually result in building code violations. Afterwards, correcting the violations can be costly.

"This would be a pro-active approach," Zarnstorff said, "to assist new owners in making their plans in accordance with code requirements."

The board took the proposal under consideration.
