Christopher Tyo and Jeffrey Tyo have recently been nominated to Who's Who Among American High School Students. Nominated students must have achieved a B grade point average or better and demonstrated leadership in academics, athletics or extracurricular activities. They are the sons of Jim and Marguerite Tyo of Spencerport.

Chris is a senior at Spencerport High School. He was also nominated last year for this award. He is a member of the Spencerport High School varsity soccer team, chorus and band.

Jeff is a junior at Spencerport High School. He is a member of Spencerport High School varsity golf, indoor track, chorus and band.


Ithaca College has awarded Fred L. Emerson Foundation scholarships to 250 outstanding students for the 2001-2002 academic year. Selection was based on a combination of level of need, superior academic performance, and significant contributions to the extracurricular life of the college. Local winners are: Angela DeFelice of Bergen, Robert Koutras of Brockport, Sarah Schram of Brockport, Michael Yager of Byron, James Wolan of Churchville, Erin Donnelly of Hilton, Lindsay MacNeil of Hilton, Brandon Steinorth of Hilton, Michael Wyant of Hilton, Julie Doherty of Spencerport, Zachary Fields of Gates, Carla Jaspers of Chili, Katie Macaluso of Chili, Tracy Pointon of Spencerport and Jeffrey Voorheis of Spencerport.


David Kent of Spencerport, a first-year student at Gettysburg College, was awarded a Presidential Scholarship by the college. To qualify for consideration as a Presidential Scholar, students must rank in the top ten percent of their high-school class, and their score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test must be within the top ten percent.


Russell L. Ardine has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of master sergeant.

Ardine is the maintenance officer for the 17th Aviation Brigade in Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea.

He is the son of Peggy and Henry Aradine of Buffalo Street, Churchville.

The master sergeant graduated in 1979 from Churchville-Chili High School, Churchville, and received a bachelor's degree in 1995 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida.


Robert P. Waterman has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Waterman, a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, will report for basic training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia. His parents are Frederick C. and Donna E. Waterman of Rochester.


Charles S. Ganoung has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Ganoung, a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School will report for basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He is the son of Marcia L. Mazuryk of Hilton and Charles S. Ganoung of Olean.


Pvt. Daniel G. Ollies graduated from the United States Marine Corps on October 12, at Parris Island, South Carolina.

Ollies is the son of Alec and Kristine Ollies of Spencerport. He is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School. His next assignment is infantry training in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for four weeks then nine weeks of security service training in Norfolk, Virginia.
