The Kendall Junior and Senior Choruses sang "America the Beautiful," "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" at Salute to America, a rally for patriotism organized by the Boy Scouts of America and held at Frontier Field on September 23. The performance followed a memorial service by the Rochester City Fire Department honoring the rescue workers who perished in New York City on September 11. The event also included a performance by the Rochester Scottish Pipe Band and the ceremonial raising of the American flag back to the full staff position. Government officials, city, local and county police, firefighters and emergency workers were also on hand.

Kendall schools community donates over $3,200
to American Red Cross

Students, their parents and staff at Kendall Central School District have joined forces to help victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. On October 10, they presented a check in the amount of $3,285.57 to Julie Trembley, director of Health and Safety for the Orleans County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Fifteen hundred dollars was raised by the junior and senior choruses after freshmen Elizabeth Christopher and Amber Jones decided to collect money for the victims after talking with their moms, Theresa Christopher and Tracey Jones, about the attacks. Another $887.57 was collected by the Student Council. The Kendall Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) added $1,000 to the donation.

Students gathered the money by passing cans around at school volleyball and soccer games, volunteering to work at a table set up for donations during lunch periods, and bringing in donations from their parents. They have asked that the Red Cross use 50 percent of the donation for victims of the attacks in New York City and 50 percent for its local programs.

Amadeus concert to benefit Ladder Co. 25

The Board of Advisors of the Amadeus Chorale, Inc. recently voted to donate the proceeds of its annual benefit concert to the children of Ladder Company #25, victims of the September 11 World Trade Center attack. This is the Amadeus Chorale's fourth annual benefit concert. In the past, proceeds have been donated to Lakeside Hospital Pediatrics (toys), Lakeside Hospital for infant hearing tests and screenings, and to Rochester School for the Deaf for equipment and to help them start their "Signing Choir." This year, for the first time, the proceeds from the concert will be leaving the Rochester area.

This year's event, "We Sing For The Children," will be held at the Cultural Life Center on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday, November 18 at 7 p.m. All four Amadeus Choral choirs will be singing. The choirs are made up of auditioned singers in grades 3-12. Mary Lynn Lightfoot's "We Sing For The Children," written especially for the Amadeus Chorale, will be premiered at this concert. Tickets are $10 each and are available through any Amadeus singer, or by calling 594-9263 or 637-0014. Tickets will also be available at the door.

There will be baskets at the concert for additional donations for this worthy cause. The Amadeus Chorale will send copies of one of our CDs, and personal notes from choir members to the families of those who lost their lives from Ladder Company #25.
