Spencerport bridge signs to be upgraded

Monroe County Legislator Dennis Pelletier recently requested that the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) review the train overpass on Union Street in the Village of Spencerport. He has asked the DOT to investigate the possibility of increasing the number of signs in the area and warning motorists, especially truck drivers, of the low clearance.

The New York State Department of Transportation has now completed its study of Route 259 in the Village of Spencerport relative to improving the low clearance signing for the railroad bridge. They have decided to replace the existing warning signs with new signs and will add auxiliary panels to the warning assemblies that state the distance of the structure. They will also replace the vertical clearance signs at the bridge. All of these signs will be larger than what is normally called for and with the addition of the auxiliary panels, they should be conspicuous. The work will be completed as time allows with the NYSDOT work forces.
