It seemed to be two games in one - a scoreless first half was followed by a combined five goals in the second half as the Kendall Eagles defeated rival Byron-Bergen, 3-2, in the Class C State Qualifier semi-final on November 5.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute when Marcy Crandall knocked a free kick under the crossbar. Then the Eagles roared back scoring all three of their goals in 11 minutes. Laura Gaesser took a corner kick, which was kicked above the box by the defense right to Jenna Gaesser who one-timed it into the lower right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1. "All I wanted to do was score and it worked out that we had the sister thing working," said Jenna Gaesser after the game.

Laura Gaesser scored a goal of her own using her speed to catch up to a lead pass from Kristina Gaylord and outrun the defense before putting it past the goalkeeper. The two reversed roles for Kendall's third goal with Gaylord gathering up a lead pass from Laura Gaesser and scoring.

Byron-Bergen would not go quietly however, as Krysia Golino headed in a free kick from Rachel Smith making the final 3-2 Kendall. Gaylord commented, "I think it was mainly nerves in the first half, but we decided to push the ball outside more in the second half and it worked. It's nice to beat one of our rivals in a game like this."

The Eagles advanced to play undefeated Red Creek in the Class C State Qualifying Final with the winner moving on to the State tournament.
