Remember seat belts during holiday travel

Despite the sharp drop in travel following the September 11 attacks, travel is returning to normal levels. While road travel will only be down 1.6 percent compared to last year, according to AAA, the highest proportion of people ever will be choosing to take to the roadways - with more than 87 percent choosing to drive. With the return of people to the roadways, it is important too minimize risks. That's why law enforcement across the state are joining with 10,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide to mobilize for the largest-ever enforcement blitz on seat belts, child safety seats and drunk driving.

Nearly 8,000 children and adults will die this year for one reason alone - they failed to buckle up. By simply buckling up, the risk of dying in a crash is reduced by more than half. That's why this 50-state enforcement crackdown is so important.
