Sweden passes noise ordinance
Sweden passes noise ordinance

The Town of Sweden has adopted a noise ordinance that aims to prevent "unreasonable, loud, disturbing and unnecessary noise" in order to provide residents with "an environment in which disturbing, excessive or offensive noise is not detrimental to his or her life, health or enjoyment of their property."

The adoption of the new local law occurred on November 13, one month after an October 9 public hearing on the proposal. Enforcement will be provided by state troopers, county sheriff's deputies and other peace officers. The penalty for violating the new ordinance will be a fine of not less than $100 or more than $250 per offense.

In other business from the November 13 meeting: the town board adopted the 2002 budget and authorized the 2002 fire protection contract.

A public hearing was set for November 27 at 7 p.m. regarding the extension of the Sweden consolidated water district on Gallup Road (north of the canal), Skidmore Drive and part of Gordon Road. The cost of the project is estimated at $246,955 to be bonded for 20 years. Property owners of a "typical" property will pay $307.84 for payment on indebtedness in the first year. Property owners will also pay a water usage fee.
