Child care subsidies available to GCC students

Genesee Community College has received three grants that will provide child care tuition subsidies to college students who are parents. These subsidies are only available to students attending Genesee Community College. Two of the grants, from the U.S. Department of Education and from the State University of New York (SUNY), may be applied toward expenses at Genesee's on-site Child Care Center at the Batavia Campus, and a third grant from the Wyoming County United Way is for child care services for students attending classes at Genesee's Wyoming Campus Center at Warsaw.

The U.S. Department of Education's "Child Care Access Means Parents in School" grant (CCAMPIS) will make $29,330 available for each of the next three years to provide child care tuition subsidies, and to allow Genesee's Child Care Center to apply for accreditation from the National Association for Education of Young Children.

The State University of New York (SUNY) has awarded an additional $25,000 in SUNY Block Grant subsidies. Applications for child care subsidies at the Genesee Community College Batavia Campus are available for current users of the Child Care Center, and for other Genesee students with children eligible to use the center. Contact the Child Care Center office at 345-6833 for more information, or stop in between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Parents who are considering enrollment at Genesee Community College in the near future are also encouraged to inquire.
