The environment of the Great Lakes and New York state are the topics of two upcoming lectures sponsored by the SUNY College at Brockport.

"The Politics of Great Lakes Environmental Protection: Past, Present and Future" is the topic Jack Manno, executive director of the Great Lakes Research Consortium, will address Thursday, November 29, at 4:45 p.m., in Lennon Hall, room 145. The Great Lakes Research Consortium is an organization of 16 New York colleges and universities, with nine affiliated campuses in Ontario, Canada, dedicated to collaborative research and education on the Great Lakes, with the goal of improving understanding of its ecosystem, as well as the social, economic and political pressures exerted on them.

"Degrees of Danger: The Health Threats of Climate Change and Energy Choices in New York" will be presented by Kent J. Bransford, MD, Monday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m., in the Class of 1962 Auditorium, at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Bransford is a member of the National Board of Directors of Physicians for Social Responsibility currently serving with the organization's Environment and Health Division. Kent's talk will review the scientific basis for climate change and global warming, its effects, stressing the health consequences and possible directions for a more secure, healthier future. The environmental science programs at SUNY Brockport, the Rochester Institute of Technology, and the University of Rochester are jointly sponsoring the lecture.

Both lectures are free and open to the public.
