Community concerts kick off holiday season on right note

The 50 voice Spencerport Community Chorus will present its annual Holiday Concerts on Saturday, December 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m. The concerts are free, with baskets available for free-will donations. The concerts are held at the historic First United Congregational Church (The White Church), 65 Church Street, Spencerport. This year's concerts will feature new music - "Bethlehem Procession" - as well as new arrangements of old favorites: "Glad Tidings Of Joy," incorporating traditional carols, and "Mary, Go Tell It" ("Go, Tell It On The Mountain") with soloist Lee Kopf.

Old favorites "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "The Christmas Song," and "Merry Christmas, Darling" with soloist Anna Sapienza will be performed. The women will take you back to the 50s with "Santa, Bring My Baby Back (To Me)," and the program will end with the rousing "Fiesta Navidad."

The Spencerport Community Chorus is directed by Margaret Page Colucci and accompanied by Margaret Johnson. Tina Besse has written some interesting and effective percussion arrangements.

Guests at the Saturday evening concerts are members of the Concert Choir of the Amadeus Chorale, Inc., directed by Darla Bair. The chorus will sing for the tree lighting by the canal following Sunday's program.
