An area resident was recently named a recipient of the Forster Educational Foundation Scholarship from Ithaca College for the current academic year.

Tracy Pointon '02 is majoring in accounting at the School of Business. She has a minor in dance. A dean's list student, Pointon was previously inducted into Sigma Iota Epsilon management honor society. A graduate of Spencerport High School, she is a resident of Ashford Circle, Spencerport.

Established in 1972 through a gift from the Forster Foundation, this scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students in the field of accounting at the School of Business.


Thomas Paolini, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel T. Paolini of Fiesta Road, Rochester, and a student at Hamilton College, recently began the college ice hockey season in a tradition that dates back to 1918 when the Continentals first adopted the intercollegiate sport. All home games are played in Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink, the nation's oldest college hockey arena. Last year, the team made it to the NESCAC Semi-Finals, where they faced the #1 seeded Middlebury. On the season the Continentals ended up 11-13-1, with a 10-7 conference record. Their conference record placed them 6th in the highly competitive NESCAC.

Paolini, a junior majoring in government at Hamilton, is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall.


Army Pvt. Charles E. Heinkel Jr. has graduated from the traffic management coordinator advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Virginia.

Heinkel is the son of Beverly I. Soanes of Banner Beach Road, Kendall, and Charles E. Heinkel of Leonard Road, Greece.


Army Pvt. Joshua M. Adams has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri. Adams is the son of Joyce Pimm of Betteridge Road, Churchville.


Anthony L. Vieira has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Officer Training School (OTS) at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama.

Vieira is a maintenance officer assigned to the 33rd Logistics Support Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Florida.

He is the son of Joyce A. Vieira of Privet Way, Rochester, and Anthony E. Vieira of Marrowback Road, Conesus.

The lieutenant is a 1990 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, and a 2001 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University through the military extension program in Warner Robins, Georgia.


Army Sgt. Edward R. Dowd has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army.

Dowd is a forced entry switch supervisor with Charlie Company, 125th Signal Battalion at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.

He is the son of David F. and Mary June Dowd of Church Road, Hilton.

The sergeant is a 1997 graduate of Hilton High School.
