Students recognized for recycling efforts

America Recycles Day, a day to promote recycling and purchasing recycled products, was celebrated Sunday, November 18. Students from four schools who returned the highest percentage of pledges to recycle received recognition and a visit from Chet the Cheetah, at Chase-Pitkin, 3349 Monroe Avenue.

Buckman Heights School received a $500 check from Chase-Pitkin and a Perry's/Wegmans Ice Cream Party for the entire school. Three runner up schools: Kirk Road, East High School and St. John Evangelist, each received a Perry's/Wegmans Ice Cream Party for their entire schools.

America Recycles Day is a national campaign created to increase the purchase of recycled content products and recycling throughout America to help conserve natural resources for future generations.

Sponsors of America Recycles Day include: Monroe County, Chase-Pitkin, Rush-Henrietta School District, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Wegmans, Perry's Ice Cream, GLOW Region Solid Waste Management Committee, Western Finger Lakes Authority, RG&E, SUNY Brockport and Eastman Kodak Company.
