Two long-time employees of the Spencerport Central School District have retired and a third will retire at the end of January. Mary Jane Montecalvo has retired as transportation director of Spencerport Central Schools after working with the district for 19 years. Joyce Pulver will retire January 31 after working 22 years with the district. Barbara Strine has retired after 16 years with Spencerport Schools.

Montecalvo began with the district as a school bus driver. She has also worked as a bus router and a bus washer before her appointment as transportation director. She says she has especially enjoyed the creativity and humor of the Spencerport students and has loved working with the people. "Hands down," she says, "the staff here is phenomenal." Montecalvo retired November 21.

Pulver will retire after working in several positions in the district. She began as a substitute in the office at Bernabi, then continued to do other clerical work until accepting a full-time position as the district's telephone operator in 1986, a job she has done ever since. Pulver says one of the most frequently asked questions over the years has been, "How do I get to Spencerport?" She, too, has appreciated the people in the district and the community. "Spencerport is a warm community and a caring school district," she says.

Strine, who retired as the Athletic Department secretary this fall, also began with the district as a substitute. She has also volunteered in district classrooms. She has been active in parent associations and the music and sports booster clubs. She says one of the most memorable events of her tenure was receiving the Golden S Award at last year's athletic banquet. She has enjoyed working in the athletic department and getting to know the student athletes. "I have loved every minute here in the athletic office," she says, "and I will really miss it."
