Churchville-Chili hosts groundbreaking ceremony for capital project

Churchville-Chili Central School District staff and community members joined Superintendent Mary Alice Price in a community groundbreaking ceremony and tour of the district's main campus in a celebration of the district's $30.9 million capital project. The event, which took place November 17 at the district's main campus in the town of Riga, showcased the highlights of the capital project.

The tour began at C-C Senior High School, where a cafeteria expansion, gymnasium renovations and new music space are in the plans. The music rooms will use the space vacated by the transportation department, which will move to the new facility on Westside Drive in the spring. High school principal Susan Salvaggio and others broke ground outside the high school.

Superintendent Price, junior high principal Don Duthe and two eighth-graders, Brian Kelvie and Kristy Kline, broke ground at the new technology center, a seven-classroom addition with a connecting corridor to the junior high school. "Rather than duplicate technology at the high school and junior high," said Price, "this plan allows for a flexible grade seven to 12 program that can be adjusted as the district's needs change."

Classrooms will be added at the middle school and at Fairbanks Road Elementary School, also on the main campus. Athletic director Neil Barton spoke about the new athletic complex behind Fairbanks Road School before the groundbreaking there. The complex includes a new eight-lane track and a multi-sport field.

The day concluded with a tour, guided by head bus mechanic Charles Dionese, of the nearly completed transportation facility.
