Chuck Laffin, Hilton Youth Assistant in the Security Department at Hilton High School, introduced the Angel Project to the Hilton School District a few weeks ago, Within days, unwrapped toys began to appear all over the Hilton School District ... dolls, motorized vehicles, 3-D puzzles, a basketball, skateboard, hiking boots, craft kits and even a bicycle. Over 250 individual toys, games and sports equipment were donated by Hilton staff and students for children served by the Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC), 148 South Fitzhugh Street in Rochester. "Everyone responded to the call for holiday gifts with enthusiasm," said Laffin. "All of the donations are valued at over $7,500." At the High School, the project was sponsored by the Student Council which was advised by teacher Deborah Wolkenberg.

Staff members at SPCC, Laura Barnard, Social Worker, and Maria Foster who works with TAPS, the Teenage Parent Support Program, came to Hilton High School December 10 to transport the gifts back to the agency which will give them to parents for their children. "Amazing .. Incredible! This is so great," Barnard explained. "Many of the children at SPCC are very needy. The children I work with are involved in a program that helps them address their feelings after being witnesses to violence," she said.

SPCC, formerly the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, is one of the oldest chapters in the country and was founded in Rochester in 1875. Laffin's wife, Kelly Laffin Reed, is the CEO of SPCC.
