"Annie Get Your Gun" comes to RWC stage
The Roberts Wesleyan College-Community Theatre will present Irving Berlin's memorable musical "Annie Get Your Gun" in January 2002. The story revolves around Annie Oakley, an illiterate hillbilly with a knack for shooting guns. Persuaded to join Buffalo Bill's traveling Wild West Show, she soon falls hopelessly in love with Frank Butler, the show's featured shooting ace. But when Annie eclipses Frank as the show's main attraction, she realizes she'll have to make some hard choices if she wants to win the man she loves. more

Newman Riga Library wants to know about book favorites
Anyone between the ages of 3 and 12, who is a Newman Riga Library user, is invited to list their favorite book and why they like it. They are then eligible to enter a drawing for a holiday book. more

New York Realtors® disburse $4.38 million in aid
The New York State Association of Realtors® disbursed $4.38 million in mortgage and rent assistance to 708 families of those killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks including families of fire, law enforcement and other emergency personnel. more

Angels at work
These girl scouts and members of seven other troops in the Brockport area helped choose books for the "Be A Gift Angel" project. Last Tuesday evening, scouts and their leaders helped pick books for giving. more

Churchville-Chili to install new phone system
The Churchville-Chili Central School District phone system will be upgraded during the holiday break. Voicemail will be off-line from 5 p.m. on Friday, December 21 until Wednesday, January 2. During this time, people calling into the district will not be able to leave voicemail messages. more

Principal David Dimbleby of Hilton High School has announced the National Honor Society inductees for 2001-02. more

Hilton students learn from company tour
Hilton High School Graphic Communication students took a trip to Diamond Packaging in Henrietta, according to Technology teacher Ronald Hindmarch. The students signed up to take the trip after the regular school day. Hindmarch and Technology teacher Tait Loe often take students to observe different companies after the regular school day is over. more

Kendall students present play about the learning standards
Kendall's Studio K drama club is helping their felelow students learn about the New York State Learning Standards now, so they can earn a good living later. "Learn to Earn" is a play written by James Morey of Wyoming, NY to help students understand the importance of the learning standards and how thye relate to the expectations and demands of employers. more

Quest students build gingerbread house
Students at Hilton's Quest Elementary School view the gingerbread village created by teacher Nicole Consaul's students. The children's book, The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett, was read by many classes in the K-6 school. more

Workforce Development Center celebrates Grand Opening
The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development recently celebrated the grand opening of its 15,000 square foot facility in Westview Commons Business Park at 3545 Buffalo Road. More than 100 visitors attended the grand opening including area legislators, BOCES 2 Board members and staff, community members, area businesspeople, and students. more

Seniors invited to learn about computers
Anyone 50 and over who wants to learn how to use a computer, is invited to register for Introduction to Computers and more advanced classes at the SeniorNet Learning Center at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester in Brighton. Classes begin the week of January 7 and March 4. more


In Sports:

Blue Devils drop to Fairport
The Brockport Blue Devils girl's basketball was outscored 17-9 in the third quarter and dropped a 63-42 game to Fairport December 17. After allowing the Red Raiders to jump out to a 10-4 lead, Brockport fought back to tie the game 12-12 with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Fairport would then go on a 20-5 run and go into half-time leading 32-17. more

Blue Devils in first place
Casey Balog had a goal and two assists and Jimmy Baker added one goal and one assist to lead the Brockport Blue Devils to a 5-2 win over Irondequoit in high school hockey action. The victory gave the Blue Devils sole possession of first place in the White Division with a 5-0 record, 8-0 overall. more

Cadets have undefeated week
The Hilton Cadets ice hockey team defeated Brighton 4-1, trounced Bishop Kearney/Eastridge 9-1 and tied Penfield 2-2 to remain among the leaders in the White Division. more

Greece-Olympia High School cheerleaders host Rochester Cheer Classic
Greece-Olympia High School has been chosen as the site for the Rochester Cheer Classic, a Cheer LTD. CANAM 2002 Qualifier to be hosted by the Greece-Olympia High School cheerleaders. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 5. Cheerleading and dance teams from across the state are invited to compete for a bid to the CANAM 2002 International Cheer and Dance Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 15-17, 2002. more
