American Legion Oratorical Program selects finalists for Monroe County Representative

The annual American Legion Oratorical Program to select the representative for Monroe County was held at the American Legion County headquarters, 933 University, Saturday, December 8. Monroe County Oratorical Chairperson Don Walters of Scottsville Post #367 is shown presenting the four finalists: left to right, Michelle Zimmerman of the "School of the Arts" in Rochester; Chris McEntee of Gates Chili High School; Paul Teague of Greece-Athena High School; and Tricia Meyer of Fairport High School. Each student gave an eight to ten minute dissertation on The Constitution of the United States. County Commander James Martin of American Legion Churchville Post #954 and Don Walters presented each of the finalists with a trophy, a medal, a certificate and a savings bond. Michelle will go on to the district competition which will be held in Penn Yan on January 13, with an opportunity to compete at the state level and then the national, which is held in April of 2002. Chris is first runner up and will compete at the district level in the event Michelle would not be able to for any reason. All finalists at each level receive scholarship awards.
