Hilton students learn from company tour

Hilton High School Graphic Communication students took a trip to Diamond Packaging in Henrietta, according to Technology teacher Ronald Hindmarch. The students signed up to take the trip after the regular school day. Hindmarch and Technology teacher Tait Loe often take students to observe different companies after the regular school day is over. "Students don't have to miss their regular classes and we can take our time. The size of the group is usually smaller and allows for a more intimate tour," said Hindmarch.

Diamond Packaging is one of several companies that partner with Hilton High School through tours, shadowing and co-ops. "Diamond Packaging treated our students like special guests and provided us with a two-hour tour," he said. "The tour started with a personalized power point presentation in their boardroom. We then toured the plant wearing lab coats. Each worker took time to share and explain their job and how it related to the entire process. Lewis Synder, Hilton senior, is presently a co-op student working at Diamond for the entire year. Lewis helped set up the tour from a students point-of-view: how it is to work for a world class company like Diamond Packaging."

"It was a great experience. It is through partnerships like this that allows education to provide a better look at what it takes for students to make that difficult transition from high school to the work force," Hindmarch said.
