Burgio scores five for Cadets

Junior Jim Burgio scored five goals and helped account for all seven Cadets' goals as Hilton defeated Spencerport 7-3 December 22 in high school hockey. The seven points in one game is the most for Hilton since Randy Coppaway had eight points in one game two seasons ago.

Hilton took a 1-0 lead 1:18 into the game on a goal from Matt Donlon. Burgio scored his first goal near the end of the first period before the Rangers' Jeff Poweski scored to make it 2-1 after the first period. Burgio scored two more in the second period, but Spencerport made it a one-goal game on goals from Joe Mulhern and Brian Mannix. Just 28 seconds later, Burgio again put Hilton ahead by two goals and along with Greg Schwind, would score in the third period to put the game away.

Schwind and Donlon would finish with three points each. Goaltender Cole O'Brien made 17 saves for Hilton and picked up the win which extended the Cadets unbeaten streak to six games and vaulted them into second place in the White Division behind undefeated Brockport.

Hilton will next play division-foe Irondequoit January 3.
