Qualifying procedures held for lifeguards in the Finger Lakes Region will be held January 5, at the Watkins Glen High School.

The Returning Lifeguard exam will be held at 11 a.m. on January 5. Only candidates employed by New York State Parks as lifeguards during the 2001 season will be qualified to take this test.

The Standard Lifeguard exam will be held at 3 p.m. on January 5. This exam is open to all candidates interested in lifeguarding for New York State Parks. The qualifying procedure evaluates practical "lifesaving" skills and cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills. All items of the examination are evaluated on a pass/fail basis.

The starting pay for lifeguard positions is $10.35 per hour.

Candidates for both exams must pre-register at least two (2) weeks prior to the test date.
