Memorializing in wood
Richard Kron of Brockport works on a commissioned wood carving, a rendition of a poignant Associated Press photograph taken in New York City as recovery efforts were getting underway following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The finished piece will include three life-sized figures raising the American flag and will be the centerpiece of a memorial monument planned for the triangle of land in front of Capen Hose No. 4 at Main Street and Park Avenue, Brockport. The station is also home to the Fire Museum and several restored pieces of apparatus. more

New credits, services highlight 2002 tax filing season

The agency also encouraged taxpayers and tax practitioners to take a fresh look at e-filing following a new study spotlighting the program's growing popularity with users. more

New York housing market solid in November
Sales of existing single-family homes in New York remained consistent in November compared to the November 2000 total, according to single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of Realtors®. The data showed an average selling price increase of 5.6 percent compared to the same period a year ago. more

Spencerport water system improved;
some still disappointed with pressure
The Village of Spencerport has completed the first phase of a five-year, $1 million maintenance and performance improvement plan for its water system, and officials say the improvement made to water pressure in the Village Pines subdivision has received mixed reviews from residents. more

Meals on Wheels needs winter relief volunteers
Meals on Wheels provides hot meals and warm smiles to Monroe County's elderly and homebound. During the winter months, substitute volunteers are needed to deliver meals. Anyone who can spare an hour or two at lunch time can call 787-8326 for information.

Sheet music request

Phil Mannix tallied seven points including a hat trick to lead the Spencerport Rangers to an 8-6 come-from-behind win over Auburn in the consolation game of the Westside Hockey Tournament. more

Justin Penna scored 16 points and led with seven rebounds as the Holley Hawks defeated Lyndonville 65-49 in the consolidation game of the Holley Boys Basketball Tournament. more

Spencerport teams qualify for scholar award
Seven Spencerport fall athletic teams qualified for the NYSPHSAA Team Scholar Athlete Award during the 2002 season. In order to qualify, a team must have a team grade point average of 90% or above. more
