Coretta Scott King, widow of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will speak at SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seymour College Union Ballroom. She will be the featured speaker for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Lecture, hosted by the African and Afro-American Studies Department of SUNY Brockport. more

Maybe that big tree that only you have noticed is a potential national champion destined to be cloned as part of the Washington, D.C.-based organization, American Forests. Society begins work on Hinchey Homestead
The Gates Historical Society closed on the Hinchey Homestead, 634 Hinchey Road on January 4. Since then they have set up an interim office in the house to act as a base for the planned conversion of the Hinchey Homestead to a community museum. more

Holley inducts 16 students
into National Junior Honor Society
Holley Middle School inducted 16 new members into the National Junior Honor Society. During what was the 14th annual induction ceremony for the school, current members went into the audience and brought the new inductees up on stage. The students weren't told ahead of time, but their parents were notified so they could attend. more

"On Broadway" comes to A.D. Oliver Middle School
Watch as a Broadway theater company prepare for opening night in Brockport's A.D. Oliver Middle School production of "On Broadway," a musical comedy in two acts. Performances are Friday, February 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 2 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, February 2 at 7 p.m. in the Brockport High School Auditorium. more

Bright Raven gymnasts dominate USAG Sectional
Bright Raven Gymnastics played host to the USA Gymnastics Level 6 Sectional January 13 where Bright Raven gymnasts took many of the top awards. In the 12 and over age division, Bright Raven Gymnasts swept the first three all around places. more

The Brockport wrestling teams opened 2002 with two victories in a span of three days. more

Brockport's Maslanka named to Verizon All-America Team
SUNY Brockport junior women's soccer goalkeeper Mary Maslanka (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) has been named to the 2001 Verizon District I All-Academic College Division Women's Soccer Team. more

Cadets lose to #1 Fairport
"If that's the best team in the league, I'm happy. We did some nice things tonight offensively and made some good adjustments. Webster only scored 21 points against them so I'm happy with how we played." Those were Hilton girl's basketball head coach Michael Mayer's words following a 58-40 loss to the Red Raiders January 8 at home. more

Jones' hat trick leads Brockport
Junior defenseman Colby Jones recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead the Brockport Blue Devils to an 8-1 victory over Spencerport in high school hockey January 12. more

Kaminski leads Saints gymnasts
Senior Krystal Kaminski finished first in two events and second in two others as the Churchville-Chili Saints gymnastics team recorded their highest total of the season in a 121.3-108.475 win over Penfield January 10. more

Local Judo players win awards
The Renshinkan Judo Dojo participated in the recent Judo Tournament at the Kin Tora Judo Club in Buffalo. Lewis Palameque, Valerie Dericquebourg and Nicky Ramundo represented the Renshinkan Judo Club of Brockport in the Junior division while Michael Gressens and Chad Scott of Webster competed in the Senior divisions. more

The Churchville-Chili Saints girl's volleyball team lost to Greece Olympia 30-17, 30-28, 30-21 January 10 to fall to 1-9 on the season. more

rolls 300 game in Holiday Tournament
Mike Zazzaro, a 16-year-old right-hander, recorded his first career 300 game during the Monroe County Holiday Tournament, an event which drew thirty local high school bowling teams. more

Travel soccer team takes first in tourney
The Spencerport Soccer Club's 9 and Under Girls Travel Team took first place in the 2001 Rochester District Youth Soccer League's West Division. Head Coach Pat Tata is assisted by Coach Ed Schwartz and Team Manager Chuck Tucker. more
