Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department calls
January 27 - 10:25 a.m. – responded to Buffalo Road residence for a report of smoke in the basement. Smoke caused from minor chimney fire. Assignment handled by one ladder, four engines (including one from Chili), one rescue and 54 firefighters. Buffalo Road had to be closed for about 30 minutes. All equipment picked up and back in service at 11:13 a.m. more

To keep New York roadways safe for motorists and children, Assemblymember Susan John (D-Rochester) announced the passage of legislation designed to improve young driver and child safety seat laws. more

All Saints Catholic Academy eighth grader wins spelling bee
The 19th Annual Catholic Middle School Spelling Bee was held at All Saints Catholic Academy on January 30. Eighth graders Brendan Noll from All Saints and Nicholas Smith from St. Mary's Canandaigua were the final two contestants. Brendan correctly spelled the words "effluent" and "novice" to become the Champion. more

Spencerport Middle School students Read2Kids
Reading stories to children is not as easy as it looks so Spencerport elementary school librarians Pam Valenti and Carolyn Villeneuve developed a detailed tip sheet and held a reading workshop for Cosgrove Middle School students. The students are part of Read2Kids, a new program developed by Cosgrove Middle School librarian Howard Enis. more



Margaret Welch, 98, is pictured with her daughter, Leona, and her husband, Marvin Hankinson. They gathered at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center to celebrate Margaret's birthday. She is a past member of Orleans Chapter OES in Kendall.

Demmans MVP as Blue Devils win
Brockport senior Kim Demmans had 84 assists over the final two rounds and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player as she led the Brockport Blue Devils to the Monroe County large school championship in girl’s volleyball. more

East-West Tourney
In the East-West wrestling meet held at Brockport Middle School Saturday, February 9, first place went to Spencerport over Rush-Henrietta 53-12. Second place went to Brockport 42-17 over Webster. Gates Chili took third place over Fairport 30-25. more

Paolini leads Big Red
Sam Paolini is still among the top 40 scorers in Monroe County Hockey League history in spite of playing just two seasons with the Spencerport Rangers and he now is leading the seventh ranked Cornell Big Red in scoring. more

Pelletier named new football coach at Brockport
Offensive Coordinator Greg Pelletier was named the new head coach of the Brockport Blue Devils varsity football team in January. A 1990 graduate from Aquinas High School and a Canisius College alum, Pelletier was the JV coach at Aquinas (1994-98) and Brockport in 1999 before becoming varsity offensive coordinator two seasons ago. more

Rangers in final for first time in six years
The Spencerport Rangers girl’s volleyball team advanced to the Monroe County small school final for the first time in six years by upsetting top-seeded Pittsford-Sutherland 28-30, 30-26, 31-29, 30-26. They would lose to third-seeded Irondequoit in the finals three games to one. more

Spencerport Soccer Club's teams participate in tournament
The Spencerport Soccer Club's Girls' 16 & Under combined Travel Team took first place in the Salmon Creek Indoor Soccer Tournament. more

Sullivan free throws beat Rangers
Churchville-Chili’s Katie Sullivan sank two free throws with just 15 seconds left in the game as the Saints held on to beat Spencerport 50-48 in girl’s basketball February 5. more

SUNY Brockport names Anne Fowler
Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach
Anne Fowler has been hired as Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach for the 2002 season at SUNY Brockport. She takes over for Rob Brooks, who recently resigned. more
